There are three classes of crew for the ambulance. Emergency Medical Technician, Driver, and Attendant. A full crew for the ambulance requires an EMT and Driver.

An EMT needs to take a NYS Certified EMT-B Course and pass the NYS Practical and Final Examination to receive NYS EMT-B certification. The EMT is then faced with a probationary period until they receive clearance to tech calls. As a member of CEMS, the fee for this course is covered. 18YO+

A Driver needs to take an EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course) or CEVO ( Coaching the Emergency Vehicle Operator) course, and then receive hours of driver training from a CEMS Driver. They are then cleared by an officer as a Driver. The fee for the CEVO or EVOC course is covered by CEMS. 18YO+

An Attendant needs to be First aid and CPR certified and cleared to ride the ambulance. The fee for needed First Aid and CPR courses is covered by CEMS 16YO +

CEMS members meet every Wednesday evening at 7:00PM to do a "Rig Check" of both ambulances. This "Rig Check" involves making sure the necessary equipment is on the ambulances, and that the ambulances are both functioning properly. Training for the equipment in the ambulance and skills you want to learn can also be taught at Rig Check. If you want to learn something, please ask another qualified CEMS member! They will be happy to help.
